James Gallaghar, overseer of the road party states....These men are part of my gang. On Saturday morning they left me in a body to come into the town. I cannot get them to perform their task or to pay any attention to what I say to them. The prisoners generally complain of ill-usage on the part of the overseer. Sentenced to 50 lashes each
